چکیده

A general formalism is derived for analytically representing the scattering properties of ultracold atoms subject to one or more resonant photoassociation lasers. The resulting formulas cleanly separate laser intensities and detunings from overlap integrals of molecular wave functions. As a consequence, laser-induced energy shifts and line broadenings are given in an explicit form. In the case of the initial photoassociation step, these quantities are given more simply in terms of the relevant molecular potential curves and wave functions near the Condon point. @S1050-2947~99!02007-7#

Heteronuclear ionizing collisions between laser-cooled metastable helium atoms

We have investigated cold ionizing heteronuclear collisions in dilute mixtures of metastable (2 S1) He and He atoms, extending our previous work on the analogous homonuclear collisions [R. J. W. Stas et al., PRA 73, 032713 (2006)]. A simple theoretical model of such collisions enables us to calculate the heteronuclear ionization rate coefficient, for our quasi-unpolarized gas, in the absence of...

Semianalytic treatment of two-color photoassociation spectroscopy and control of cold atoms.

We present semianalytic expressions for scattering probabilities of cold trapped atoms in the presence of two weak, independently tunable laser fields, both tuned near molecular resonances. We consider two experimental situations. In the first, an Autler-Townes doublet appears and is shown in certain circumstances to exhibit unequal peak heights. In the second, the pair of lasers is employed to...

Measuring positron–atom binding energies through laser-assisted photorecombination

Described here is a proposed experiment to use laser-assisted photorecombination of positrons from a trap-based beam and metal atoms in the gas phase to measure positron–atom binding energies. Signal rates are estimated, based in part upon experience studying resonant annihilation spectra using a trapbased positron beam. While positrons are important in many areas of science and technology incl...

Capture and Ionization in Laser–assisted Proton – Hydrogen Collisions

The significant modification of capture and ionization probabilities in ion – atom collisions, assisted by a strong laser field (above 1012 W/cm2), has been demonstrated theoretically [1–3]. So far, however, an experimental test has not been performed, due to the difficult synchronization of a collision with a laser pulse [1, 3]. We present electron capture and ionization probabilities for ion ...

Resonant ion - pair formation in electron collisions with rovibrationally cold H 3 ¿

Experimental and theoretical cross sections for the resonant ion-pair formation ~RIP! in electron collisions with rovibrationally cold H3 1 ions are presented. Absolute cross sections for the RIP process producing H ions are measured for center-of-mass energies between 2–20 eV using the CRYRING, heavy-ion storage ring. Theoretical cross sections are obtained using wave-packet propagation on bot...
